Hints of modern cruising began to emerge as early as the 1960’s, when transport by air dramatically reduced transoceanic travel times, changing what took days of sailing to just hours of flying. Using ocean liners as a means to travel long distances from one point to another swiftly grew out of favor, while leisure itineraries using similar type vessels boasting several ports of call within a single sailing gained momentum. The economic growth in the decades following the Second World War allowed many more middleclass Americans to enjoy a vacation via cruising, and the industry has continued to evolve since then. Miami, PCG’s home base, became the cruise capital of the world due to sizeable investments in its marine infrastructure and geographical location.
Cruise destination development and marine infrastructure projects are interconnected, and over the years PCG has been deeply involved with many projects in the cruise sector. As cruise vessels continue to get bigger so does the need for deeper navigation channels and the upgrading of docking facilities. PCG has worked directly for the cruise lines, for developers, port owners, and other stakeholders supporting cruise line private island destination developments and mainland cruise port developments initiated by public or private parties. Our efforts are geared towards a successful project delivery and CAPEX control, from the initial regulatory approval and concept development phases to the construction and long-term operational phases.
Experience/Examples:
Port of Belize, Belize (2020)
Coco Cay, The Bahamas (2018)
Harvest Cay, Belize (2016-2020)
Bermuda Narrows, Bermuda (2016)
Bergantine Bay, Dominican Republic (2015)
